I agree, very similar, but I think the difference is that we are not just picking between deterministic Gods in this case, we are “creating” God. Who is going to create the Deridits’ Basilisk of you example? It's not just an act of imagination, human actions are relevant in either cases.

All those who oppose Roko's Basilisk. Hope is a greater motivator then fear.
