We have the US left suddenly clamoring for free speech after a decade of arguing for restrictions, and the right forgetting all their arguments for the importance of the govt staying out of speech. It's maddening. A lot of folks are so tribal that they don't see the overlap with the "other" side.

One silver lining is that when the US Attorney General said this week that she would go after "hate speech" she got so much push back (I think from within the party) that she retracted/clarified her stance.

My guess is that overt censorship will be struck down by the courts, but it's likely that we'll continue to see creeping control. Seems to be the nature of power.

I mostly fear that too many institutions and individuals algin precautiously with the requests of Trump even when they are not backed by courts.

This also already leady to real damage in loss of free thoughts. This will probably have an impact. Depends how many freedomfighters there really are. And how many favour comfort.
