1907 years ago today, Hadrian was acclaimed emperor. He fortified the boarders of the empire, maintained peace, and led Rome to a level of prosperity which was unprecedented and would not be exceeded until the industrial revolution. He also ensured a smooth succession for 2 generations after his death, naming Antininus Pius his heir on the condition that Pius made Marcus Aurelius his own error. Neither man was related to Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius was a teenage prodigy.
