My understanding is that lactobacillus is not self maintaining in the gut, making constant reintroduction through consumption necessary. Bring on the sauerkraut!
Discussion
Bring on the sauerkraut! For sure. It’s like a garden. It needs more seeds planted (probiotics), good fertilizer (prebiotics), and can get weeds (transient flora). However, there is still much to know. People eating meat only (carnivore diet) have some undeniable benefits but one of my main concerns is that, over time, they will starve out their good flora which may make returning to consumption of non-meat foods challenging. For the most part, my gut patients improve when they eat fermented foods - myself included.
This is my experience as well. It seems to be that moderate dietary biases, with preferences for meat and fat with veggies results in wellness. Extremism takes benefits and effectively converts them into liabilities over time.
pretty sure it will live in your gut so long as you feed it enough milk and not overrun it with sugar shite that breeds competitors that kill it off
the bacteria is originally from calf intestines afaik, but it also floats around in the air nearby... not surprisingly
there's no way it survives in your gut without regular doses of lactose, that's for sure
and it's no use for anything other than digesting lactose
lactobacillus converts lactose into lactic acid, and there is a second one, that lives in a symbiosis, acidophilus, which likes the acid conditions and breaks down proteins like the hard protein casein from milk
Sorry, but this isn’t correct. Lactose is broken down by an enzyme, lactase, which many animals only produce until milk consumption is no longer necessary. Lactobacillus is an anaerobic bacteria that dies in the presence of oxygen. It is maintained in the human vagina, using maltose secretions, where it helps to maintain a protective acidic pH. I suppose we should all consume more vaginal secretions?! 😂
