Incense bamboo (Phyllostachys atrovaginata) shooting new culms. This one produces a wax on the surface that smells like sandalwood. It gets big (~2.75” diameter and 35-40’), the culm sheaths are an attractive dark green and wine red (hence atrovaginata=dark sheathed), and it has air canals in its rhizomes as an adaptation for wet soil. Also supposedly good eating, though ours isn’t yet established enough to harvest. Originally from the amazing Bamboo Garden in North Plains. #phyllostachysatrovaginata #incensebamboo #sandalwoodterps #waxingandmilking #keepculm #aromatherapy #rootedchimes #clicketyclack
