If you're sending zaps to someone who is quoting or boosting someone else's content, wouldn't it be better to send the zap to the person who created the content instead?

yes. But let's eliminate the digg.com effect, where original sources don't get the credit. I am seeing LOTS of posts where the original creator has no zaps.
