White is optimism (defeat is not inevitable) black is nihilistic pessimism (defeat is inevitable or even desirable)
Grey is the alternative to red/blue tribes, a reference to slate star codex's grey tribe, aka vaguely libertarian techies & associated intellectual culture. More of a cultural niche than proper philosophical orientation
