“Proof of Work in online communities”
Spent another five minutes on #bluesky and man it suuuucked 🫠
Most of the “trending” or “what’s hog classic” posts were either haughty/snarky takes on current events, or engagement farming, and my few minutes of scrolling ended with some guy posting “if you’re still on the other app, help me ratio this shithead” and then a link to Twitter.
Like, that just doesn’t exist on nostr. (Does it? I haven’t seen much/any). If someone shows up like that, they get minimal engagement and people are quick to explain the 🫂 culture here.
I wonder if the fact that it’s harder to get an account well-configured, with relays and following feed, etc., serves as somewhat of a gauntlet that protects the community from the traditional social media’s value-sucking trolls.
Instead, you have to invest your own valuable time and energy, be an honorable participant, and the rewards are a mix of community, information, and value (sats)!
Sounds one hell of a lot like proof of work to me.
