so i went to the pharmacy in Ponta Delgada on my outing today to pick up my shipment of hydrolysed beef powder, after finding it on btcmap:

the lady in the store wasn't quite familiar with how it was working and actually i didn't have anything in mind to buy particularly - several thing i probably need but hadn't thought about it much (i have most of my first aid kit and basic antiseptics and stuff, but probably could use an antihistamine and some antifungal treatments and some other things, it gets pretty soggy here and i have allergies sometimes it would be nice to not suffer as much)

she said she would be talking with the owner of the store to learn about how it's done and i said i'd be back next week to get some things and pay with lightning

it will be a pretty cool thing, nice to see someone on this side of the island getting involved

Did you teach her how to do it? I'm curious what set up they went with.

Having lived in China and gotten used to paying for everything via QR code, I am 100℅ sure that payments over lightning will become preferred by everyone - IF they/we get to it first. But we are moving soooo slowwwww and if fiat moves faster, btc won't be able to compete for everyday payments. China has had fiat QR code payments for years - at least 9 years, that I know personally. The Fiat rails already exist, so lightning is basically out of time. Roll it out now or we lose the whole game. Idk how the LN devs and businesses that are on our team don't see this.

idk, it was some app that the Madeira FREE guys set them up with, but they hadn't trained everyone in the staff yet obviously, possibly tehy only just listed on btcmap

i'm definitely gonna be back there early next week and buy up a load of things... some antifungals for my toenails and another type for my ringworm on my right elbow, and some claratin for the situation where i get an allergy, though i have been allergy free for weeks now, idk what else to get, i literally stocked up on all the first aid stuffs, and other than those things i'm pretty much good, but maybe i'll get some more toothpaste and a new toothbrush just because and maybe there is some other things i can think of when i'm there

i don't think we lose the game, i think that it's just the tech hasn't been matured enough to be used commercially until this last couple of years, it was only first conceived in 2017 after all

but for sure, i want to spend my money there, and not only that, the lady was so much more friendly than the pharmacists in the main sao vicente pharmacy, like, out of sight more friendly, so i think it will work well

plus there was a bit of an omen in it, when i show up, there is this fancy mature belgian couple there and the dude had this fancy outfit on that was sorta like an orthodox priest, i made jokes with him about where's his hat... and he noticed my vivobarefoot boots, and was rather charmed by them and wanted to know what they were, and he showed me his Vibram boots... the dude was like... who was the bad guy in LotR? he was Magneto, that guy... Saruman... he had that sorta look about him, and a similar magnificant vibe

so it was all rather funny and strange and the girl was really nice and friendly and chatty

so yeah, i want to go buy a bunch of stuff with LN next week and put a review on them on btcmap and try to get more bitcoiners to come over this side of the island, because it's better here

damp and drizzly, and quiet, which is what at least some bitcoiners should like, the kind like me anyway

The only other bitcoiner I know IRL loves damp and quiet places. I bet Madeira is already on his radar.

That old respectable European vibe... I like that. One of my grandparents had that vibe, and had real medieval swords decorating his house. He exuded sophistication. Like Saruman, but good.
