The potential future of the Democratic Party (@AOC & @ZohranKMamdani) utterly failed in their response to Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

They gave one statement each. Broad, vague, as if fearful of being canceled or called out by their supporters, or just not caring.

It is indisputable that extreme left views and complacency with violence (and outright cheering violence) that has been growing and permitting online, from many of their supporters, is a huge problem and risk to our liberal democracy (just as many of us in the past have said the far right is a risk as well)

This is failed leadership. It needs to be called out more. Not just “all political violence,” but speaking directly to your supporters and saying “we can disagree with Charlie but it is not ok to commit violence or promote and applaud it”. @BernieSanders did a bit of a better job, but he’s not the future.

This failure in leadership is another huge reason I do not believe they should lead the Democratic Party or our nation, and will not be a united and good force. Do better. They should immediately call a virtual town hall to denounce this if they want the American people’s support and trust that the are the right fit to lead the Democratic Party and nation forward (but they are not…)

Condemn violence, focus on UBI and Bitcoin. A new left needs to come about. You're a great voice nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgqg7waehxw309anx2etywvhxummnw3ezucnpdejz7ur0wp6kcctjqqsd2s26xy7ns3sllyagc9c0jsdje49xdfw0mwcfxsrfvrmvkvtcf8c2pmm0w. Keep going and keep strong. I think better times will come for the left but it needs to find better ideas.

For me it's the UBI. The left only needs to focus on UBI, nothing else.

No one wants UBI.

UBI has to be the worst idea ever floated. Every time Sam Altman and the like are challenged about AI taking people’s jobs away, their answer is UBI. I can’t believe people accept that as an answer.

UBI is a ticket to serfdom.

The rich will get insanely rich and the rest will get scraps.

UBI is a ticket to serfdom but divisive printing to fund the 5% at the top and then something like 30% more of people that are gov workers or welfare families, that's fine.

And now you say NO it's not, we need to abolish the State. OR you say that we need socialism or communism.

And then I say good luck with that.

And that's it, nothing is said, nothing is added, no resolution is added.

If the democrats want to lose every future election, you’re right. They should focus on UBI.

If they want to win, they should focus on job creation, a more intelligent version of deregulation/pro-growth policies than the ones Republicans are pursuing, along with energy infrastructure, and housing growth.

Americans don’t mind working. They embrace it. But they want a fair system.

There is no leadership in the Democratic Party. None. I’m not sure they will even succeed in midterms next year, even with all of the tailwinds they should have at their backs, given how polarizing and incompetent the Trump administration is.

The democrats have no vision.

Right now they should be strategizing on how to leverage the looming budget/gov shutdown vote at the end of Sept.

But they’re doing nothing other than making bland or stupid comments on social media. Soul-less.

This calls to bend the knee and just accept the framing of the Trump junta is actually insane. And calls in question how it stands about your media competency.

There is not even a hint that the motivations behind this incident where motivated by left extremism, nor is it an issue in the bigger picture.

The liberals together with the republicans and their complete demolition and looting of the state with their neoliberal policies are the responsible parties for creating the socioeconomic climate that creates this mental healty crisis that leads to this shootings.

To single out this one guy that was close to Trump, and overall a completely deplorable being that incited hate against minorities and supported a genocide, and to demand everyone publicly cries a river over his death, when he is directly responsible for assisting a regime that causesd the death of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, with thens of thousands of children among them, is insanity.

You are on the wrong side of history fueling this fires. And don't think a second the right will not come after you just because you portray yourself as some sort of liberal centrist.

Aside from the gun control dig, what more should have been said that wasn't, in your opinion?

The "right answer" here is to unequivocally condemn political violence as unacceptable in a free society. I feel like they hit that point.

Again, outside of knee-jerk Bluesky takes, I'm really not seeing some wave of "serious" figures on the Left or Center Left doing anything like the dancing on Kirk's grave that the Right seems to be caricaturing them as.
