Energy is life.
The tectonic shifts humanity is wrestling with are nearly all underpinned by the flow of energy and the great societal struggles mostly boil down to more, or less. Break out, or wither and retreat.
It is *completely* logical that we arrive, here, now, at energy-backed money.
