What’s a good way to make a secure pin for your phone? How many digits should it be? #asknostr

6+ digits

Avoid common patterns or personal info

Use non repeating numbers

Don’t reuse it on other devices

if you intentionally avoid repeating numbers then you are weakening your PIN

a good chunk of random PINs will have repeating digits

a random number generator that never generates the same number multiple times in a row with a long enough sequence is a biased one

Makes sense. So just using a (truly) random number generator would do the trick. Good to know

6 pin? I'd say the security may depend you system design

Just want something that can’t be broken into easily

yeah, maybe iOS is the most secure system from 3rd party hackers, not sure from NSA lol

Wouldn't matter if they have a flipper zero or other device... 🤷

misinformation

What do you recommend?

What is that?

I use four, but I also have anything of importance on the phone pin'd or password protected and I use a self hosted pw manager for all of that. Also have it set for auto-reboot after 8 hrs of not being unlocked.

Why the auto reboot? What kind of OS are you using?

Graphene. Its one of their built in security features. Forces sim pin and phone pin to get in and a lot of services are not running until fully unlocked

Also with Calyx. I have one of each

If you use android, check settings, security, more privacy/security. The option is there is stock android has it

Unfortunately I’m still cucked by iOS but I’ll be switching to graphene as soon as I pay off this phone

Had an employer issued iphone once. They never reclaimed it after I got fired over the jab so this is what I did with it😎

Use a passphrase

I thought about that but it’ll take a while to write out
