Is your IP address naked (unprotected)? Amethyst has Tor built in and defaults to automatically connect to .onion URLs/relays over Tor.
If you are not protecting your IP, you would be giving relays access to that location information and more—and there are malicious relays and relay operators on the network.
It is best privacy practice to use Tor/Orbot or a VPN to hide that sensitive information when using Nostr.
From Amethyst GitHub page:
"Relays know your IP address, your name, your location (guessed from IP), your pub key, all your contacts, and other relays, and can read every action you do (post, like, boost, quote, report, etc) except for Private Zaps and Private DMs. While the content of direct messages (DMs) is only visible to you and your DM counterparty, everyone can see when you and your counterparty DM each other."
I am happy to give my IP address to relays so that they sell my data to relevant vendors ..and make some money .. why not ?
As far as location is concerned , if you ever use Google maps .. or a credit card , your location is well known to everyone who wants to track you .. if they do ..
And btw - if you step outside on the road and walk for fifty meters in a city like San Francisco, rest assured you are already photgrphed 1500 times .. so this idea of online privacy has no bearing at all ..
And most privacy folks here on Nostr use their own domain for nip-05 ..for which they paid every year through master card or visa :-) .. and then they have the gall to confuse ordinary users with their scares ..so fed up ..

My ISP does 1 year DHCP leases per NIC
A typical DHCP lease time used by ISPs in California, and most other places, is 24 hours. This means that a device will receive an IP address from the ISP's DHCP server that is valid for 24 hours before needing to renew the lease.
Please verify that each time you unplug your router. You maybe doing extra work for nothing

Besides , I can't even begin to understand the code of new tools .. nostr is an exception for me cuz I want to contribute in this movement even if the code is beyond my grasp ( rather time to read) .... I know for sure that people here mean good ..otherwise ..I don't use opensource programs that I don't check myself or all old enough to trust .. eg Debian or vim mostly later ..
