With the info you just gave it is very difficult to justify such a difficult/horrible situation,
the way I see, every group/culture has their own (dark history) difficult situation that the in-group have caused.

My personal opinion:

(I'm not an Indian, my focus is the bigger picture -> the movement against oppression -> goal = to improve bad conditions worldwide at the same time, we are lucky we live in the modern time, I believe the change worldwide is possible),
take worst case scenario even if it is 87% of the people who accept the horrible situation."
"Isn’t it better for us to support the 13% who are trying to make a change, also who are looking/searching for the objective truth?"
