I got to a point where my mobile data plan is consistently 10x faster than my home internet for the same price. Go figure.

Where do you live? Lack of optic fibre then.

Boston, I am getting 1ghz consistently on the mobile, 100mbs on cable.

1 Gbit/s?

Yep, 5G

Boston should have optic fibre, strange that its so low. Plus, 1g/s for mobile is very good.

Certain regions of London (e.g., Westminster) are sorta like this as well. Well, latency is better for me over cable, but throughput over 5g can be better.

"Ulimited" plans are also a good deal. My only problem is that most mobile operators are under CGNAT and won't allow you to open ports (even over IPv6), so you basically have to set up tunneling or some sort of VPS / VPN combo with port forwarding + DDNS shenanigans if you want to host anything.

That tells what I expected about the status quo of American Infrastructure.

Same at my place, so the data at home is also 4G/5G, even if it is now possible to have fiber.

I have gigabit home Internet. My mobile is nowhere near that.

How much do you pay for gigabit at home? I am paying 40 bucks a month for ~gb speeds on mobile.

I pay $100 a month for home Internet. And mobile is $150 a month for 4 lines. (I need to go into town and see how fast things are with full service. It's been a while since I've tested in town with full bars.)

I recently updated to Mint Mobile. It works great and the most expensive plan is $30month unlimited. And the introductory price is $15.

I used Mint for many years and was a very happy customer. Great service and would recommend. I traveled to Costa Rica and Canada and didn't have roaming Internet and paid for it both times. I ended up buying Silent.link and that worked fantastic in both locations! Eventually I said that I'm traveling so much now that I don't want to deal with that and switched carries.

Damn. I was not expecting that with full signal.

A second test and I got 680 👀 Wild.

I spend too much time at the lake where Internet is so bad that most photos won't download or upload.

Exactly same situation for me. I get 100mb/s on cable and 400mb/s on mobile data for half the price.

I need a new router, using the same one 8 years now time for upgrade

If I could just host docker containers on mobile

that's a lot of radiation near you
