Only 444 light years away. Basically our neighbors. Someday, humans will go there.

i'm pretty sure they already are there, according to the ancient predynastic egyptians there was people that they referred to as "gods" and they left. also you know about what the dogon say about it. here's a brave leo summary:
The Dogon tribe of Mali holds a complex cosmology that includes beliefs about the Pleiades star cluster. According to their mythology, the Pleiades is recognized as a source of intergalactic travelers, a concept that aligns with modern Ufological lore despite the relative youth of the stars in the cluster.4
The Dogon believe that their ancestral deities, known as the Nommo, originated from the Sirius star system, but they also associate the Pleiades with the arrival of celestial beings who helped guide humanity.3

These beings, described as aquatic, half-man, half-fish entities, are said to have brought knowledge and taught humans how to harness energy from the sun, heal with sound, and move large stones using acoustic resonance.5
The Dogon tradition includes the belief that these teachers would come from the Pleiades to each corner of the world to assist in the renewal of civilization after cataclysmic events.5
This connection between the Pleiades and the arrival of advanced beings is echoed in other global traditions, such as those of the Maya and Hopi, who also link their origins to celestial visitors from the Pleiades.3
The Dogon's knowledge of the Pleiades, like their detailed understanding of Sirius, is considered extraordinary, especially given their isolation and lack of access to modern astronomical instruments.2

well, it sounds a bit mangled to me, like the classic "atlanteans were mermen" silliness, but what Apocalypse of Yajnavalkya says, was that that was where the atlanteans left behind saying to some of the rest of humanity they were going. the rest is the usual cargo cult misunderstanding due to lack of knowledge. probably if they were witnessing these "fish" behaviours, it was really elementary stuff like they had rebreather technology or even compact oxygen extraction devices so they could basically stay for very long periods underwater. they also were a maritime people, their land was crisscrossed with canals and the capital city, prior to the move to egypt, they built them into the natural structure of an ancient, worn-down volcano known now as the Eye of the Desert.
but yeah... the fact that the dogons knew about proxima centauri is very interesting.
Proxima Centauri is too faint to be seen with the naked eye, with an apparent magnitude of 10.43 to 11.11.2

Its proximity and planetary system make it a prime target for future robotic exploration and astronomical study.
there is no way they knew of it from looking at the sky. you need a telescope, it's too dim.
also, for some more things related to it, from hinduism (leo again):
Tishya is a name associated with the Pleiades star cluster in ancient Indian astronomy and mythology. In the context of the Vedanga Jyotisa, a treatise on astronomy from around 1400 BCE, Tishya is listed as one of the stars in a sequence that begins with Sravishtha (also known as Avittam in Tamil).
This list, mentioned in Panini's sutras (4-3-34 to 37), includes Tishya among other star names used in ritual and personal naming practices.
The Pleiades are known in India as Krittika, the wives of the Seven Rishis or the mothers of the war god Murugan.
While Tishya is part of the broader cultural and astronomical significance of the Pleiades, it is not one of the seven primary sisters traditionally recognized in Greek mythology, which include Maia, Electra, Taygete, Celaeno, Alcyone, Sterope, and Merope.
The name Tishya itself is derived from Sanskrit, symbolizing joy and happiness, and is also the name of a fragrance inspired by the lotus and the rare Neelakurinji flower.
the constellation notably is mentioned in the Vishnu Purana where it says that a conjunction of moon, jupiter and sun around the same latitude of the sky as the third mansion of Cancer, and the pleaides are counted into Taurus but they are actually quite a ways into the segment that they call cancer.
that prophecy says that when that conjunction occurs, in that location, a new golden age begins, after the end of the dark age. i know there's lots of disagreement about what constitutes the point when we are officially precessed to the equinox falling in aquarius, but the description of the conjunction, i'm pretty sure that this configuration only happens every 12000 years, or so.
i checked, and actually sun/moon/jupiter conjunction in cancer happens about every 11 years
wait
jupiter's orbit matches the solar cycle???????
Had to look it up, but yeah it seems to match. There was even article saying planetary alignment influences the solar cycle, but they did a "we value your privacy" popup and I had to click off cuz f that shit. So, since sun spots and plasma follow magnetism, it would seem to be more support for astrology actually having some validity.
There was something in your first note that I don't think my client or phone knew what to do with - here, I made a red dot next to them, they were all over.

Couldn't plug it into a text editor to see the plaintext either cuz my go-to notepad app has decided its too good for my phone's clipboard and it has to have its own separate clipboard. I'm sure someone thought it was a genius idea... Anyways. I tried.
Those star friends of the Dogon wouldn't need to keep coming back and restarting civilization of we could decentralize technology and production. Someone somewhere would survive with a 3d printer and a home chip fab... And a modular nuclear reactor. And a tractor. Surely someone...
