Imo zeus is best LN wallet. Especially if you run your own node, which if you don’t, should be added to that list

I love Bitcoin Lightning and have run an LN node for about a year now. But I dont store any significant amounts in Lightning.

I am starting to wonder if its worth it.

Since LN does not support cold storage / hardware wallets, it is in effect a Hot Wallet.

If its a hot wallet for small change when travelling that I can load up at will from cold storage, is it even worth running an LN node?

Sincere question, not trying to antagonize.

Open to constructive discussion.

I currently use getalby for nostr and manually send to my node if needed or vice versa.

The only reason in my case I can think of is for altruistic purposes to help strengthen the network. But this comes at a much higher cost than running your own core node....

I wouldn’t call it altruistic or say the cost is significantly higher as far as running just a core node vs a lightning node, but yeah that’s overall pretty accurate. And it can def be way more costly with high-fee force closes. Lightning isn’t perfect. I definitely wouldn’t recommend significant funds on it either. Lightning withdrawals from exchanges to something like mutiny and then sending to your node and swapping out to cold storage is an example of non-altruistic, non-routing use case (better privacy… i think)
