the sites do so because driving people to profiles that their algos find "attractive" drives more people to use the site.

so they drive followers to these people, via the algo, then said person gets popular, and the site makes tons of analytics data monies on all of them.

its not rocket science, but it is dishonest, and reprehensible.

couldn't agree more. That's why we're here. No matter who you are and how famous you are, you are on your own here and the system will not help you at all. In this regard, everyone is fair. The rest is up to individual ability and influence.
