Often when I eat a piece of fruit, I toss the pit into a pot of dirt on my balcony. I mean why not — it’ll break down into nutrients for the soil eventually, and occasionally one of them grows into a plant.

When I first started doing this, I often mistook weeds for potential fruit plants, but now I know which common weeds grow here and root them out.

At the beginning of the summer, I noticed a new plant growing in one of the pots, wasn’t sure what it was, so I snapped a photo and looked it up:
