I mean, yeah, obviously that's why you stave off death by slowly turning youself into an inhuman abomination AND you create a family and legacy.

2,000 years in the future a mysterious automaton patrols the world with naught but a distorted echo of the original self. Yet even now it decisively intervenes, acting as a wandering guardian for those of a curious bloodline scattered across the globe.

It long since lost the ability to speak, with its throat torn out in some unknown past battle, destroyed like so many other pieces of itself while protecting its human descendents. It continues to share what pieces of knowledge and wisdom it can, and yet when you look into its mechanical eyes, the expressionless face gives no indication that the person who originally developed that wisdom still exists in there.

The technology required to repair the automaton was lost in a previous era, and yet the automaton has still lasted longer than the many humans who repeatedly augmented and optimized themselves until they had redefined themselves into dust.

Every scrap of tissue from the great anscestor is dead and gone forever. And yet their soul still survives in their descendents and in the actions of the automaton that patrols the world.
