Quick internet search give imperfect information if not total bullshit. They only lost some raw video tapes of one single mission. Years ago a company recovered almost all the telemetry after recovering and fixing the old recorders able to read the tapes.

I haven’t done a deep dive on that one but as far as I can tell the two most trumpeted responses to that, from the denier community, are that the same thing has been accomplished without such aids, using just the surface properties. And it seems this checks out - though someone countered with an argument about the precision differences. And the other objection suggests that the reflectors were placed there later, or perhaps by other nations ‘in on it’…
definitely something I need to dig a bit deeper into before concluding defeat though…
