#Progressives of Nostr, I have an honest, non-trolling question.

I don’t hate Trans people; I don’t celebrate their suffering or support when their rights are trampled*; I’m not afraid of them, either. I simply don’t believe them when they say they are the gender they claim.

Why is my point of view called “Transphobic?”

*by “rights trampled” I mean things like jail, theft, and violence, not simply failing to accommodate, like adjusting use of pronouns or access to specific bathrooms on private property.

It’s called transphobic bc to people who would call you that, that’s the word they use for not agreeing with how they identify 🤷‍♂️

Hey bud! 👋 I think you’ll find when you speak to real people (ie not twitter) about this, at least in my neck of the woods, they are quite happy for you to just give them space to express themselves how they want. Whether you believe their gender expression is correct or not is really irrelevant in my mind. I disagree with tons of people, but respect their individual rights to carry on in their lives as they see fit. It’s not a big deal for me to call you what you want to be called, so I will. Take the libertarian approach to this topic and you’ll *rarely meet opposition.

I hope it’s not different where you’re located.
