Here's my reply:

There's a thing called Lightning network. Instant settlement, no utxo trouble, it just works.

Big retailers accept it and it just works. And has quite a big network effect (in my stores it's half of crypto payments).

Honestly, this looks like overengineering blabbing. Lightning works on many payment gateways without a problem, including keeping the value in fiat (even though most payment gws are not operated by the largest exchange).

Maybe you forgot that you are building products for end customers (who pay the fees) and not to make life easy for you.

For bigger mission, you should be aware that you are supposed to help (and make money while doing so) people in the global south. They will not have Coinbase account. And they definitely want Bitcoin not some Erc mumbojumbo coins. if you want to understand real needs of people, follow for example Anita Posch who helps people in Africa use Bitcoin using self custodial lightning wallets.

You simply lost touch with reality I'm sorry to say. 👎

If some merchant reads this, if you want to accept Bitcoin lightning, use Btcpayserver if you need payment gateway, Breez if you do it in person, it has free and open source self custodial point of sale module. If you are not ready for getting technical and want fiat in the end, Confirmo works and is used by a major retailer Alza in central Europe with huge volume. Somehow they solved this "challenge" you are talking about.

To add: you don't need smart contacts to enforce payment details in lightning. It is not possible to underpay a lightning invoice and it has instant finality and even expiration. If you want to hedge the exchange rate for 15 minutes, you set the expiration in the invoice, amount in SATs and it's either settled in time or it won't be able to be settled ever. There are no in between states.

This problem has been solved in Bitcoin years ago without any smart contract whatever...
