so the answer is "better" hardware. I don't want to do without the many advantages of having my own node.

I stopped using RPi’s for Bitcoin / Lightning node years ago. From ARM devices in home prefer Hardkernel Odroid HC4, which has two built-in SATA slots, so that I can run with two SSDs in a mirror, without using unreliable USB connection.

I was actually always happy with the raspi (with just a few channels and applications). unfortunately, I only have space for an internal ssd in the nuc.

Next hardware will support more internal SSDs
