i just saw the funniest thing just now

as some may know, my favourite bird is the eurasian blackbird, and they have them here in #madeira - but they are a bit different to the ones in europe and the UK, they don't do that whole sit at the top of the tree warbling in the evening and early morning thing quite the same way, song is different, they aren't as loud

but it's very similar

anyway, i just saw a male blackbird scooting across the ground and then up on top of a pile of logs, and it sneezed

yes, it sneezed

the sunlight was very bright behind it, kinda late afternoon, and it shuddered and there was a clear visible spray of fluids

lmao

sneezing birds, i never saw a bird sneeze before!

oh yes, one thing i learned about blackbirds recently was that they actually originate from these islands here in the atlantic, same as the canaries

as i watch them more and more i get to see they have a lot of similarities, they are both quite acrobats, blackbirds are like low acrobats, and the canaries like to show off above the trees, both sing beautiful songs, often while sitting in a high place like on top of a tree or on electrical wires, the blackbirds are just a little more stealthy and low key all around, bigger, and the males are distinct from the females, so far i haven't noticed any visible typing to the canaries, although they are so small it can be hard to see any detail at all
