I've signed up for two paid relays...should I drop the free ones totally? Am only using the Damus and Snort free relays ATM.

It makes no difference. Just set it to as many relays as you want. It will make it easier to discover you.

Use both, just set the free ones on write only, unmark the read and there you go, free from spam

I don't see options within Damus to edit read/write permissions of the relays. How is this done?

Oh nevermind - was able to find these options within the snort.social GUI
