I think a warning when last commit is older than 2 months or so.

I know about releases not commits. Yes there is a warning when latest is over a year old.
A year is probably fair for most software. Even Debian gets point releases.
Maybe color coding the warning:
0-6 months Green
6-12 minths Yellow/Orange
Over 12 months Red
