You think nostr is bad?
No I am saying its the people who make a place good or bad not the algorithms
Idk man, my twitter algorithm was hell bent on convincing me to either kill myself or get plastic surgery.
Learned a lot about esotericism and shitposting but the Bitcoin signal was often drowned by noise.
I got all sorts of fear and negativity fed to me, I love the lack of algorithms on Nostr, but I suspect they are coming.
There is nothing stopping someone from building a client that has its own subtle ranking algo (sorting my total sats zapped would be a good example)
The big difference is that if you didn't like the algorithm, you'd be able to switch to a different client fluidly and have all the exact same followers/follows.
The benefits here is that it allows for a free market of Nostr clients, but there is a non-zero chance that a client with an algorthm built on Nostr becomes the primary way many interact with the protocol. We are just in the initial wild west version right now.
Can't wait to see how it progress with all of you 😄💜
But what negativity could an algorithm feed you here right now?
Not much, but it'll come. I've been attacked by a couple shitcoiners who clearly came on just to argue with people. In the globals there are some people doing the fear porn thing.
I think I'm basically agreeing with you here, that algorithms are not to be feared, and could potentially add value to the space. I would be pretty bummed to lose the pure freedom here though, but I could always adopt a client without the algorithms I dislike.
I always hated the fact that there was no "timeline" on twitter. But yeah, in the end I got along with it, and most probably I would get used to it here again.
I think it depends on the algorithm. If it’s looking at friends of friends and trying to help me make connections it’s probably positive. If it’s trying to put me
into an agitated emotional state so I’m more likely to buy something, then it’s probably negative.
I'm not sure how you mean? Like, the nostr experience wouldn't be much worse than Twitter, or worse than it is now?
I think nostr is pretty great, and I'd be sad to see an algorithm take away the organic way I find people now.
The latter.
There just not too much negativity the algorithm could promote. Maybe here it would even have a complete different effect.
