Ok, I see better what is going on. With early single sig, addresses are essentially a hash of the pubkey…but a hash of the pubkey can be thought of as a (simple) set of conditions that must be met for a transaction to be valid..

But we can extend beyond simple spending conditions, yet still retain the hash of the corresponding more complex redeem script as the bitcoin address. Thus, if you had a time locked type of wallet, and you forgot the value of the time lock, you’d have to try every possible value for timelock to discover the addresses for your wallet (65536 ish possibilities here).

I think I learned that an address is actually a hash of a script and not necessarily tied to being the mirror image of a private key from nostr:npub1e0z776cpe0gllgktjk54fuzv8pdfxmq6smsmh8xd7t8s7n474n9smk0txy's Udemy course. Pretty cool.
