I am reading Glock: Rise of America's gun, and you want a Glock. The design just dispenses with nonsense. It is incredibly safe and reliable.

Glocks are the most dependable handguns on the market.

The G19 is an excellent model for home defense and CCW. If you have real small hands, can go with 43x. If really large hands, 45.
