It doesn’t have to be pretty it just has to close the circuit. Anything you mess up can be fixed by desoldering it. Just take your time. Go slow. Error on the side of too little solder and add more.

Thank you! I'll make a third attempt tonight. Problem I think is I got a soldering gun (weller) because it was all my hardware store had. The tip is not a point like the video above. I can't do the method he is demonstrating....
A soldering gun is a little overkill for this little job. Gonna make it harder.
Put the end to the pin and get it hot for a few seconds. Then bring the wire in to the tip and let it melt and draw down the pin. You are going to wrestle with that gun to get close in to the board.
