I have to stop myself from becoming tech support for friends. Nothing good ever comes from it. I had to cut someone off yesterday because they were becoming toxic and thought they owned my time.

😂

This is the way ✂️

the worst part is when you've been the tech guy for so long, even your wife asking for the wifi password feels like work.

Lol For real. It's a lot easier since I set limits even in our household. I manage all the tech, but my wife doesn't get to be picky about what I manage. She really isn't anyway, so this was an easy deal. We have the same devices and operating systems so it's easier for me to manage it all. It's worked quite nicely. Password managers for that end so she has them.

And I thought I was the only one feeling like that.

Dude, my ex still bugs me to come over and fix stuff.

You should make an ex-ample of her by cutting off her internet.

Nah, that’s too mean. She doesn’t even know how to change the wifi password.

😆

I went through this some years back. People still ask occasionally.

"Matt, didn't you study IT?"

"Nope. Computer science is different."

"Oh."

Works every time lol

I recently had to draw a line at work. I'm paid for my medical skills, not the IT ones. Call IT. Same goes for average people. Hit the tubes, bud.

I also use: you have windows, right? I only use linux and bsds 😂

Rock solid idea. Would not be a lie for me either. I only use Graphene and GNU/Linux. BSD curious though.

Yeh, same.

A neighbour asked if I understood how mobile phones worked.

I started explaining about gorilla glass, IP packets and how antennas work. I explained about 5nm ASICs and how Lithium Ion batteries work.

They said great, can you change my ring tone please 🥹

😂

Every Xmas 🎄…

You too 🫂

Overshooting is a bitch 😉

The irony is, I couldn't change her ring tone, I wasn't technical enough 😂

they should have this nuanced balance when should they ask for favor and when to return before asking again

Yeah, I’m responding. I can probably help you, if your computer is running DeezNuts.

I feel this one 🫩

its bad

We have been tech support for the past 30 years. It’s too late for us. 😅

i just started using tech that’s obscure, and saying, “oh i dont use that”. they just stopped asking

"Sorry, I can't help with Windows problems, I use Linux. 🤷‍♂️"

Undervalued reason to switch 😂

It used to be a problem, until I started sending people a video link that would teach them how to do things.

"Check this out, it'll explain it better than I can. It's where I learned it from"

Send a lightning invoice upfront. If they can figure out what's that they probably won't need your help anyway.
