I have to stop myself from becoming tech support for friends. Nothing good ever comes from it. I had to cut someone off yesterday because they were becoming toxic and thought they owned my time.

Lol For real. It's a lot easier since I set limits even in our household. I manage all the tech, but my wife doesn't get to be picky about what I manage. She really isn't anyway, so this was an easy deal. We have the same devices and operating systems so it's easier for me to manage it all. It's worked quite nicely. Password managers for that end so she has them.
And I thought I was the only one feeling like that.
I went through this some years back. People still ask occasionally.
"Matt, didn't you study IT?"
"Nope. Computer science is different."
"Oh."

I recently had to draw a line at work. I'm paid for my medical skills, not the IT ones. Call IT. Same goes for average people. Hit the tubes, bud.

A neighbour asked if I understood how mobile phones worked.
I started explaining about gorilla glass, IP packets and how antennas work. I explained about 5nm ASICs and how Lithium Ion batteries work.
They said great, can you change my ring tone please 🥹

Send a lightning invoice upfront. If they can figure out what's that they probably won't need your help anyway.
