For YouTube ad blocking, I've found umatrix (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/umatrix/ogfcmafjalglgifnmanfmnieipoejdcf) to be helpful.

You have to enable some Google stuff under the XHR section a lot, the larger the number in the box the more likely that's an ad. So I start by enabling lower numbers first until the video plays and if an ad starts playing I'll disable that box and reload.
