Tx fees are a forever thing. Block subsidy is not. Every single on chain tx has a fee. The person who mined that block is paid those fees for all the txs in it.
daaaamn. Guess I'm glad I'm picking up a couple small miners then. Never know, might just hit the jackpot.

Yeah I know some people run like one miner which acts as a permanent lottery ticket. However, the odds of winning the bitcoin lottery grow slimmer and slimmer as time goes on and difficulty rises.
But hey, ya never know
