My daughter told me she's sending me a card for Father's Day (it's sometime soon in the UK apparently) and it got me to thinking.

When my daughter was little, maybe 5 or 6, she made me a clock at school, one of those you can decorate yourself.

She looked at me all sad and disappointed when she gave it to me and said 'I'm sorry daddy but I got it wrong".

All it was was some of the numbers being in not quite the right position.

It melted my heart. I was so happy with it. It was literally my most favourite thing from her ever.

Anyway, 5 years ago I lost it when my yacht caught fire. I lost a lot. A heck of a lot.

But here we are, 5 years later and the rest of it is...irrelevant. The money, the work, the tools, the clothes, the camera gear...none of it really matters.

I miss that damned clock and feel terrible when I think about it because I didn't protect my daughters gift.
