It’s irrelevant that society is hostile to “_____”. Societal hostility is neither novel nor homogenous. It wouldn’t matter if you could leave the zone of hostility and find the place of belonging.

Social media (which is *new) has made that more possible than before in some ways, but not completely. It can often be just as cliquey, and tends lacks the organic nuance of in-person communication necessary to more easily find and formulate new (and more loosely bordered) groups and belongings.

On the other hand: growth in the denominator does relate. Put more people in a room and you’ll generally have more trouble finding whomever you’re looking for.

Social media has the possibility to make this irrelevant as well, like floating above the crowd in the room in order to find the specific person you’re looking for. But I mean, can you accurately recognize the person you’re looking for just by their hair? 👨‍🦳💇‍♂️👨‍🦰👱‍♂️💆🏼🙈🦍
