It’s fiat brain. They think they can centrally plan everything and coerce everyone into compliance, then simply eliminate those who resist them too hard.

Afterall it’s worked for 100 years, they literally don’t have any alternative and if they lose their grip they’re probably all going to be strung up so why not triple down?

That’s the game theory side of it - incumbent power can not relent, they must go further and harder and just pray it doesn’t break and blow up in their faces..
