Hey GARDENERS! 🪴

Are you starting your beds yet?

I just saw a video by James Prigioni where he grew a garden right in a commercial soil bag. It was inspiring!

I’m working on a twist on that idea by making small garden beds to keep things as a simple weekend project. Here (see picture) was my first pass, but I think I’m going to go even simpler: block the weeds with cardboard, lay in the small beds, and then surround everything with wood chips to cover the rest of the cardboard and make it look a little less 'redneck.'

If I do one or two of these a weekend, I should be ready to start planting as soon as the frost is gone.

So, gardeners, what are you doing right now to get ready for the coming season?

Just after I posted that, I started thinking about it more and decided I wanted to go ahead with it—still a little differently, though. So now I've rearranged the boxes and buried them in the wood chips. The wood chips are now separated from the compost by the boxes, but the boxes aren't as prominent. This way, I can build my garden gradually in small sections and leave plenty of room between my micro-beds (or mini-beds.whichever term sounds better).
