The most intense body builders do like 1.8g to 2.2g of protein per pound of body weight. No real reason to ever eat more protein than that. For reference a pound of ground beef is about 90g of protein; so 2ish + lbs of beef a day for elite athletes. Not to mention other quality protein sources in your diet, eggs, milk etc.

Protein just aid the cells in producing the muscle building proteins needed for cell repair. Those proteins then repair muscle damage.

Animal products are the highest quality proteins because they have the most complex BCAAs. Other less quality proteins in granola, soybeans etc hardly even count as protein because they have weak BCAAs not very suitable for muscle recovery. Not all proteins are created equal.

It just taxes the body to turn excessive proteins into fuel in the absence of carbs, sugars or fat. Most likely the excess protein will just pass through the body.

Your body burns sugar, carbs, fat, then protein, in that order for fuel.
