What is Merged Mining?

Merged mining refers to the process where miners can mine two or more blockchains/sidechains simultaneously without having to split their computational power.

One of the most cited examples of merged mining is between Bitcoin and Namecoin. Namecoin, being a smaller network, benefited from the security provided by Bitcoin's massive mining power while Bitcoin miners enjoyed extra rewards from Namecoin without any added effort.

Did you know?

Merged Mining, a core component of Drivechain, was introduced by Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi, in 2010.

Drivechain introduces a new proposal called Blind Merged Mining.

Blind Merged Mining (BMM) allows miners to mine a sidechain, without running its node software.
