Is there someone in #nostr who uses or used Macbook for engineering purposes except computer sciences? I’d like to get one, but I’m not so sure if it is capable for mechanical engineering or not.

What apps are you planning to use?
CAD & Analysis apps mostly. For this purposes I guess MatLab, Onshape, OpenFoam, Fusion 360 are work just fine on Mac. I believe I can work with Ansys Onscale by using on BootCamp. But if I don’t use Parallels (which I won’t. Can’t afford it) I cannot run Solidworks, Catia, Ansys Workbench etc. Compatible programs seems fine when they looked from distance by I need more on-point information.
Go with a windows pc. I own both mac and pc and I use Ansys CFD, OpenFoam and Matlab on pc. Without Ansys support using mac as a daily driver is not a possibility for me.
Do you have any suggestions? It needs to be portable yet powerful, like MacBook.
I’d stick with Lenovo Legion / P series, if you have extra budget go with Dell XPS series and Lenovo P series.
I heard XPS’ have cooling and noise problems. As a Dell user, I can relate that. I’ll look Lenovo laptops though. Thanks!
And you may consider the Thinkpad line also
Just checked both of them (at least the ones which can be find in Turkish market). They are not portable at all. My back getting hurt when I travel with a chunky machine all day.
Abi bu arada Ansys Onscale tamamen cloudbase imiş. Macte özellik kaybetmeden kullanabiliyorsun. İstersen bir dene, belki PC’den tamamen kurtulursun.
