So you're talking about someone using the same server you are, one that you both trust? In which case, an XMPP or matrix homserver could be perfectly suitable, as long as your accounts are on the same one, and you trust the operator.

Doesn't delta.chat create exactly the same issues? You'd need to be using it with accounts on the same mailserver.
