I'm less concerned about China than the US overlords managing their fiat slave camps. I also only use the VPN to access content the US firewalls won't let me use. I've also been burned by the paid VPN service that I tested on Protonmail, cancelled, and when they continued to charge for services I didn't want to use, the locked me out of all my email accounts there.

So, yes I am VERY aware of all the risks we face when trying to freely navigate online services beyond government data firewalls.

Are YOU using fiat rails to pay for your VPN?

If using LN payment rails are you routing payments through your node directly, without using a prophylactic node to protect your IP address and identity?

Can you confirm they don't log and won't share your activity through them? Does anyone even care if they're just trying to access porn sites as those captive Frenchmen are?

Can you be certain they will cancel billing you for access to their sandbox?

Or be sure they won't someday decide to deplatform you for whatever reason they choose?
