Anyone grow their own #mushrooms? Like #shiitake for example? How easy is it to mess up? #growstr

My parents have for years. If you have a large shady spot, say under a treat, you just drill holes into a log and out in spores. That’s about it for many easy varieties. Some are harder but many are easy.

What about squirrels and other animals? Don’t they eat them?

Not as much as you would think compared to typical garden plants. If you have several logs and “seed” them all around the same time with an easy mushroom there are often so many they can’t all be easily eaten. They grow like weeds given good conditions. Oyster is usually the easiest https://northspore.com/pages/grow-mushrooms-on-logs-videos
