even better, and cheaper, and less messy, are "hygiene showers" that are fairly common in bulgaria, it's basically one of those gun style hoses but for your butt... much simpler and cheaper
i lived with a bidet for a couple of months and i found it got really dirty really fast
bulgarians know how to do bathrooms... i think in the times of rome bulgaria was basically THE bath place of the romans
tiled to the ceiling, drains, no stupid glass panels or shower curtains, you can take that "hygiene shower" and use it to hose everything in the room down in a typical bulgarian bathroom, which is far more hygenic
i was disappointed to discover that here in portugal, well, madeira, that they don't have proper drainage in the bathrooms... the drains under the shower and sink have one central point they collect to but it's sealed up and it doesn't have an S bend to stop the smell of the drains come back up if you open them
the bulgarian ones have all the things, they have these neat low profile ones and the bath floors are always about 2" thick so all this drainage can be fitted, and mostly the floor drains right out even in relatively poorly constructed bathrooms, even out in country towns!
