Anyone have a Google Pixel phone? I'm looking at picking one up but need to know if it's worth it. I need something really resilient to being dropped and getting wet, and has decent battery.

My plan is to graphene it when I have more time and read that it's easy on the pixel and they have long spans of security updates

It’s worth it. I’m an IOS convert. Network connectivity is especially improved

Pretty easy to set up for people with a low tech threshold or better to buy one already set up?

Easy DIY, low tech threshold

That reassuring thank you. I have lived a pretty crazy life but tech honestly gives me anxiety working on it lol

You got this 🐦‍⬛

I'm going to order one today and give it a whirl

The graphene guide is step by step. Takes 20 min

Graphene only works on Pixels so if that's the route you want to take that is the phone you'll need.

Very worth it. I recommend the 7 or the 8. The 8 has support through 2030.

Not sure about the resilience. Get a good case 😁

I would say so. The website has a pretty straight forward step by step process and there are helpful tutorials on YouTube.

I should point out that you'll need to buy a Pixel that is *unlocked*. If you are shopping online many electronics marketplaces will tell you right in the product title if it is unlocked.

Ordered one straight from the gulag Google store unlocked thanks for the input

Yep, running Pixel 4a with CalyxOS as a daily driver the last couple years. It's worked great on durability and better battery compared to my prior iPhone 6 (which survived a deployment to Afghanistan). I might move to Graphene too when this Pixel dies to go deeper on customization.

I used to run a dedicated Pixel with Graphene locked down tight for just Samourai/Whirlpool - it was easy enough to flash in 2019 and should be way easier now. I wasn't the biggest fan of Daniel Micay's public persona but hope he and Graphene are both doing well after his departure.

I'm always biased toward DIY and thought it was somewhere between easy and a learning experience as someone who's like an average Windows power user in corporate America. I'd recommend skimming their web install guide and maybe watching a recent YouTube video to get a sense of it when you decide how to do it. They have a really active Telegram chat too. Best of luck! https://grapheneos.org/install/web

Cool thanks. I get aggravated really easy working with tech. So this should be super fun lol. I'm going to be getting my start 9 set up too which I'm also not really looking forward to

Ordered one today managed to get one 20% off

Nice, you can stack sats with the difference. However, I'd be extremely careful about using that device now since Google can correlate its IMEI with your purchase and probably that feeds info straight to the NSA. If you used your name, address, credit card, and/or transfer your number to it, corporate and government surveillance efforts will have no problem tracking a lot about you. Graphene will help with a lot of general security and apps but purchasing a device with cash and some form of disguise against the store's facial recognition (or straw purchaser) is probably the easiest way to achieve a more meaningful privacy overhaul. Along with running the phone's data through an e-sim like silent.link (with KYC free sats) and a VPN, then porting your number to a VOIP stack like jmp.chat or mysudo, you can really improve privacy. Michael Bazzell's work on this is very helpful if you want to check out inteltechniques.com. But I don't want to scare you because every incremental improvement is a win down the rabbit hole of privacy.

Well that's disheartening didn't really think all the way through that, but I used my business to purchase. I'll pick up an older one for less for a daily driver start of the year

Fair enough! It's probably impossible to evade authoritarians and corporate stooges in the digital age but we sure can improve over time. It's easy to get overwhelmed or burned out so big props for your work so far!

Yeah honestly it stresses me out because tech and math make me anxious lol.

I've been listening about running a wallet on a standalone pixel so may see if I can find a couple to use. I'm kind of annoyed with myself for not thinking through it enough but used the company funds so it is what it is at this point I guess
