For a while now I was considering to buy a #bitcoin miner (Space heater). I kept hesitating whether or not to buy it. But two weeks ago I thought Fuck it, let’s do this, we’ll see how it goes. So I ordered a Bitmain Antminer S9.

Few days later it came in the mail and I was so excited to assemble everything. But of course I had to do a little photoshoot at first 😄.

Assembling this was fairly easy, some parts were a bit hard to reach tho, but overall fun and easy to do.

After assembling everything I needed to configure the miner too, and this process was a little bit of a puzzle, I’m still busy with that tbh, but one thing I know for sure is that I’ll be solomining Bitcoin with it.

So yeah, I’m happy to add a few terrahashes to the Bitcoin network with this machine! 🤩

Sounds amazing.

Where do you get electricity from?

Solo mining, does that mean that you won't join a mining pool?

Electricity comes from the Belgian electricity grid, nothing fancy 🥲. But ehm, yeah, it’s all I got atm.

Solomining is indeed different from a mining pool, it’s the same as lottery mining in which you can earn a whole block reward if you’re lucky enough. Chances are very slim tho

Awesome project my fren! I want to do that when i got my new home, maybe next winter. Good a few questions for you..How much did you pay for the S9 ?

How much ⁰C did you gain in a small room when it's running full power ?

You should be able to get a second hand S9 fairly cheap (talking about 100-150 €) but without a case or anything.

Temperature gains really depends on the room tbh, if you have good insulation, you should be able to heat up a small room (20 square metres or so) fairly easy I think. But it comes at a cost 🥲

Got it..what's the max consumption ? 800 watts ?

You can choose that a little, 800 seems fair with a low fan speed. but you can also go up to 1360W, with fanspeed at 100%

Still less than a small electric heater. They use around 1500-2000W for a small room

Yea true, some electric heaters go up to 2400W, so they’re more efficient, but they won’t mine any #bitcoin

Good luck with your lottery mining. The only tiny way to make it super profitable 😆

Nice. I run a SilentS9 in the winter from 21 Energy. https://21energy.com/products/s9-silent

Why not naked?

Because I wouldn’t want my cat to fuck things up. Also, my GF wouldn’t allow it

I have grill plates over fans to stop little fingers.

Wife finally caved. It's outta sight.

Have you checked out Heatbit? Seems like an interesting project nostr:npub1srsa6lqlxnqfg3lgmzjxrjtn77tlju7t77zy8t6t9ydlnkv7syts8dwhlh

I did check em out at one point.

But IMO I feel they’re overpriced. Don’t get me wrong, the design is amazing. But for what I know, on the inside is “just” an s9. Okay there’s an air purifier as an extra, that’s nice! But I didn’t really need that.

I don’t mean to say that it’s a bad product by any means, just with the info that I have, I feel like it’s overpriced.

Fair enough. Hadn’t bought one yet either. I’d be willing to let them extract some value for noise reduction and more effective space heating thru encasement design, but how much? Not sure.

Yeah, fair point! Design has a price tag ofcourse 😊

But I’m wondering. What type of miner do they actually use? Or is it classified? 😄

Good question
