Never thought about it, but if you treated it like humanure that would certainly work and avoid any problems with disease, parasites, etc.
But that sounds like a lot of work. I'd probably opt for a simpler treebog-style system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treebog): basically a pit planted around with willows, with a source of carbon, like sawdust.
1. Toss the poop into pit.
2. Sprinkle some sawdust on top.
3. Let the willows enjoy their candy.
4. Harvest the willows for animal fodder.
Of course, you still have to scope the poop. You could probably train a young pup to do his business nearby and save yourself some work.
