Do you consider asking for email to be KYC?

No. You can make it like KYC if you sign up with an email account that is linked to your identity, but you don't have to do that. Usually the purpose of collecting an email is mainly for account recovery.

I dont even buy that reasoning anymore. So what if I dont want recovery? Companies dont let you skip the email part. A lot of that is about data collection unfortunately.

I think its getting harder to create email withoit KYC as well. Proton only sometimes lets you get by with captcha only. A lot of these services actually have in their terms no more than one account anyway. They could terminate the account anytime. Alias services are really just putting your eggs in one basket. I just wish I could get by not needing email. Nostr for example.

I have a trash email for that cases

Same but tired of doing that.

I'll be pragmatic and answer no. It's not ideal and most accounts shouldn't require it but it's not really KYC.

We have to draw the line somewhere or else words start to become meaningless.

I agree with you. So its not KYC buts its TMI. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚
