I’ve been wondering…

I’ve bought a raspberry pi 4 a while ago and I’m using it as a Bitcoin node cuz it’s important to validate your own transactions and preserve my privacy without having to rely on someone else’s node.

I’ve made sure that my wallets use my own node (some via Tor).

But is that all I can do?

I mean, it’s not a whole lot I guess? Aren’t you able to have the mempool aswell? Am I able to install that somehow on my phone?

I don’t really find how I can do that tbh

I think you could use your phone’s browser app to browse mempool on your node. 10.0.0.xx.yyyy when on your local network.

Oh indeed, makes sense tbh

It makes more sense to only use it in lan on the PC and on tor browser when in wan. But as onchain tx are rare works fine only on the PC IMO.

Did you download the mempool app on your umbrel?

Yeah I did

Then you should be able to see your own mempool

Thx for clarifying. And is there some way to adjust it?

Yeah don’t know how it works for umbrel but you should be able to change mempool size for example if you want to

You can run your own mempool. The github for it can walk you through the installation and RoadToNode also has a walkthrough on setup.

Run an electrum server to increase privacy with wallets

You can run a lightning node with your own private channels.

Oh okay! Thanks, I’ll check that!

I run an electrum server indeed, at least, I think so. My wallets are connected to electrum which I run on my node ;).

Lightning node âś…

I just find this conversation and setup fascinating.

How so?

Not being very tech skilled but still excited about it, I am looking on how to best build a node and relay. One that I would run.

The node isn’t very difficult. I mean, there are a few different options out there. I went with a raspberry pi 4 and nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct cuz I think it looks nice and it’s easy to install.

About the relay part, I’m not sure

Why dis you not get the umbrella hardware as well?

Because it didn’t exist yet when I ordered my pi.
